Change Angle of Attack To Eliminate Players

Change The Angle Of Attack To Eliminate Players in Field Hockey

October 20, 20231 min read

One of the best ways to beat players is to eliminate them without taking the ball into contact.

When we take the ball into contact we tend to give the defender the chance to make a tackle or win the ball.

On the contrary, if we can get the defender to commit to moving in one direction, then we can wrong foot them and change the angle of the attack to eliminate them.

Today's inspiration comes from the Argentina's women over 45's masters team, where several players demonstrate how we can use a change of angle in attack to eliminate players.

In the video clip below you'll see this theme being used a number of times, which gives us a few examples of how to use it across different parts of the field.
